The Electrical Safety Foundation recommends asking the following questions to determine whether you need to have your home electrically inspected:
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider having Teague Electric do an inspection of your home. Some other safety recommendations are: Installing GFCIs and AFCIs in your home if you do not already have them. GFCIs (ground fault circuit interrupters) protect against accidental electric shock or electrocution by acting immediately to shut off the circuit if it senses a ground fault or "leak" of the current off the circuit. Homeowners should consider having GFCIs installed on general purpose receptacles throughout the home. AFCIs (arc fault circuit interrupters) are a newer way to protect your home. The AFCI can prevent fires that might be caused by problems with outlets, switches and frayed or cracked cords connected to the circuits. The AFCI senses the particular signature of an arc - where electricity has to jump through an insulating medium - and, like the GFCI, acts immediately to shut off the circuit, thus reducing the risk of fire associated with arcing faults. For more tips on how to protect your home and keep it safe from electrical problems, please call Teague Electric. We'll be happy to answer any questions you might have!
